One-on-One Nurse

Qualifications:
- Education Level: RN or LPN
- Certification or Licensure: Valid Nebraska License as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse and valid current CPR Certificate.
- Experience Desired: Experience as a school nurse or pediatric nurse preferred.
- Other Requirements: Possess skills necessary to perform responsibilities.
Reports to: Executive Director of Student Services, Elementary School Nurse Supervisor, and Building Principal
Essential Functions:
1. Knows and complies with district policies, rules, and procedures.
2. Knows and complies with state laws, regulations, and recommendations regarding
school health and nursing services.
3. Practices professional nursing in the school setting according to the parameters and
definitions of the Nurse Practice Act in the State of Nebraska.
4. Provide 1:1 care to medically fragile students including but not limited to trach care,
G-tube feedings and seizure care. This would include traveling with student(s) to/from
home.
5. Provide healthcare to students with acute or chronic health conditions through
assessment, intervention, and follow-up within the school setting.
6. Administer medications and monitor delegated medication administration in accordance
with the Medication Aid Act and within the scope of practice of the professional
Registered Nurse.
7. Serves as a consultant to students, parents, teachers, administrators and others.
8. Assists supervising RN with the health screening program as needed.
9. Develop and implement individual health care plans for students as needed and
coordinate their care. LPN’s assist with development of the IHP, implement and
coordinate their care.
10. Maintains accurate health records, reports and documentation.
11. Promotes appropriate skills development, communication and teamwork in a positive
working relationship with other building employees and health room team.
12. Participates in building committees as a nursing/health professional.
13. Serves as a liaison between physicians, community agencies, families and school
personnel and students.
14. Supervises and trains healthcare para-professionals.
15. Contributes to the development of school nursing practice by participation in nursing
organizations, staff development, health services teams and committee activities. This
includes mandatory and punctual attendance at School Nurse Meeting, Team meetings,
and Committee Meetings.
16. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services, the district head
nurse and the building administration.
