Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for developing and implementing CMM inspection metrology methods to evaluate product compliance to design specifications. CMM inspection technologies may include (but are not limited to): touch-probe, scanning probe, optical/vision camera, dot-scan, and other methods as identified. This role assists manufacturing, quality and engineering with establishing and optimizing CMM inspection measurement procedures and training others to perform inspections. Responsibilities also include driving improvement by actively researching and developing sophisticated techniques and innovative ideas by networking with others both within and outside BD. Regular, punctual attendance is a crucial job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

This position will support a rapidly developing and expanding “State-of-the-art” CMM, Optical and Multi-sensor Metrology lab supporting an equally expanding manufacturing center!

Job Description

Operate CMM inspection equipment and develop expertise in the use of the related software for medical product inspection and analysis applications. Assist with measurement system documentation and validation. Analyze and post-process CMM inspection data in support of product and process qualification activities using OEM CMM inspection software and/or other software programs such as Minitab. Provide engineering support for utilizing CMM inspection technology to validate/qualify manufacturing equipment, processes and product includes include active participation in compliance matrices development and fixture design. Interact with plant production, continuous improvement & quality teams to examine options and develop plans to demonstrate CMM inspection tools to support plant performance. Actively research and implement new technologies and standard methodologies within CMM inspection. Maintain state-of-the-art CMM inspection proficiencies through training courses, seminars, industry conferences, and peer mentoring; with specialists, both within BD and without. Develop and validate standard measurement routine programs for first article inspection (FAI) and other required inspections. Coordinate routine preventive maintenance and calibration activities for the CMM inspection equipment. Assist with development and application of additional related metrology resources & capabilities as needed. Align with all local BD quality policies, procedures and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Required: Associates Degree in Machine Design or Mechatronics, Electrical, or Electrical Mechanical Technologies with CAD, or related field;

BA/BS Degree preferred in Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Mathematics, Metrology or related field.

Minimum Experience

  • 2 years’ of industry experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience preferred.
  • CMM inspection or related metrology engineering experience preferred as well as CMM programming preferred.
  • Zeiss Calypso CMM & Optical programming knowledge would be a plus, however training will be offered if candidate background is in another software/hardware platforms.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities (KSA’s)

  • CMM Inspection Routine Development
  • 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
  • GD&T defined by ASME and ISO Standards
  • Measurement System Validation & Gage R&R
  • Statistical Analysis, Minitab/SPC
  • Microsoft Excel/Word/Visio
