JOB TITLE: Assistant Principal

REQUIREMENTS:
A. Education Level: Masters Degree with major in educational administration. Valid state certification with administrative endorsement for grades PK-8 or PK-12.
B. Experience Desired: At least two years of experience as a teacher, or such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Job Goal: By use of leadership, supervisory and administrative skills, manage assigned school so as to promote the educational development of each student.
Job Goal – Organization: The orderly distribution of tasks, authority and responsibility among individuals and groups in order to accomplish the goals of the system.
Performance Responsibilities – Maintenance:
1. Serves as a member of the Administrative Team.
2. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications and discussing problems of mutual interests with others in the field.
3. Arranges conferences with parents when students are having problems in school.
4. Assists in supervising the preparation of all school reports of the district office.
Performance Responsibilities – Project:
1. Acts as a liaison between the school and public authorities.
2. Sets up supervisory assignments.
Job Goal – Instruction: Organize and guide staff to analyze needs, plan, implement and evaluate to improve instruction as to continually better meet students needs.
Performance Responsibilities – Maintenance:
1. Assists in observation and evaluation of all professional, paraprofessional, administrative and nonprofessional personnel attached to the school.
2. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all board policies and regulations by school staff and students.
3. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according due process to the rights of students.
4. Handles discipline problems referred by teachers.
5. In the event of the absence of the principal, the assistant principal will have all the rights and responsibilities of the principal.
6. Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program.
7. Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established board policy.
8. Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct and health of students.
9. Supervises the maintenance of accurate attendance records of students.
10. Supervises special events held to recognize student achievement and attends school sponsored activities, functions and athletic events.
11. Assists in the supervision of students on the school grounds before school starts in the morning and after school is dismissed in the afternoon.
12. Assists in the supervision of the students in the lunchroom.
13. Assists in he supervision of school activities and athletics
14. Keeps the superintendent informed of the school’s activities and problems.
15. Assists in the supervision of the safety and maintenance of the school plant
Additional Performance Responsibilities:
1. Serves as an appointed member on district committees.
2. Assists in coordinating staff development opportunities for teaching staff.
3. Consults with teachers in the areas of classroom management and discipline.
4 Assists with facilitating the interdisciplinary teaming process.
5. Co-chairs Parent Advisory Council.
6. Performs other duties that may be assigned.
