JOB TITLE: English / Language Arts Teacher

REQUIREMENTS:
A. Education Level: Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in English or Language Arts at the 9-12 secondary level.
B. Certification: Must meet standards for 9-12 secondary certification as a teacher of English or Language Arts as set by the Nebraska Department of Education.
C. Experience Desired: A working knowledge of, proficiency in and experience with Nebraska State Language Arts standards
EMPLOYMENT TERMS:
The salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education background. The contract year shall be 190 days for new teachers to the district and 188 days for returning teachers.
REPORTS TO: High School Principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Must be able to teach programs in English / Language Arts according to district approved curriculum and Nebraska State Language Arts standards
2. Provide leadership and supervision of students in developing, organizing and utilizing resources reflective of a standards based instructional program at the high school level in English / Language Arts.
- Be an active department participant and collaborative team member assisting in program development and evaluation.
- Participate in appropriate teacher in-service and district professional development programs with implementation in the classroom.
5. Provide a safe orderly learning environment and assist in the supervision and direction of students as assigned.
6. Provide a variety of learning experiences in which students are actively engaged as participants in the lesson implementing elements of Explicit Instruction into daily lessons.
7. Assumes responsibility for the preparation and administration of building, district and NESA assessments.
8. Incorporate best practices in the content area and use assessment data when making instructional decisions.
9. Must have a working knowledge of and ability to use and incorporate mobile devices as a part of the instructional program.
CERTIFICATED TEACHER EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Columbus Public Schools Board of
Education policy on Teacher Evaluation and Professional Practices.
