5 Things You Could Be Doing Right Now in Columbus
Because it can be easy to forget “gems” of Columbus, I want to remind our community of the wonderful and fun opportunities/activities you could be doing right now.
- Bike Share – Columbus in Action
This NEW activity in Columbus makes it simple for our community to stay active. These bikes have a unisex frame, 7-speed gearing, adjustable seat height and a rear basket to serve everyone’s needs. All you need to do is to download the Movatic application and you are set to rent and return a bicycle.
Bike Share is located at main Hospital entrances and at Ramada Hotel & River’s Edge Convention Center!
Have a question? Obtain an informational brochure at the main Hospital entrances and waiting areas or call ACTION at 402-606-4096.
- Columbus Area Recreational Trails
While you are out trying a Bike Share bicycle, don’t forget about all of the safe trails we have in and around Columbus! Those trails include: Two Lakes Trail, Castner’s Crossing, Bob’s Lake Trail, Robert White Trail, Wilderness Park Trail, Monastery Trail, Pawnee Park Trail and 8th Street Trail.
Check out www.columbusnetrails.com to view a map of all the trails above, FAQs and possible future trails.
- Pawnee Park – FootGolf at Van Berg
Pawnee Park of Columbus is invaluable in our community, providing us with a lot of green space, swimming, sand volleyball, tennis, fishing, disc golf, and the list goes on.
Pawnee Park’s newest activity is FootGolf, located at Van Berg, a small nine-hole golf course. The sport is played and scored the same way as golf, but players kick a soccer ball into a wider hole. This sport appeals to all ages, so there’s no reason you can’t grab a group of friends and head out to Van Berg!
- 2018 Visitors Bureau Photo Contest
This is the Columbus/Platte County Convention & Visitors Bureau’s 10th year sponsoring a photo contest to show off everything that is special about the Columbus area.
Whether you’re a professional or amateur, all ages of photographers are welcome. Photographs can fit into four categories: Festivals, Outdoor Activities & Vistas, Nature Still Life or Landmarks. A prize will be awarded in each category, with an overall “Best of Show” winner.
Complete contest rules are available at http://www.visitcolumbusne.com/photo-contest/.
- Farmer’s Market
The Columbus Farmer’s Market is a long-time Columbus tradition of local produce, fresh pastries and hand-crafted art work, home goods and more.
To come out on Saturday mornings is to support local vendors who love what they provide enough to continuously provide their goods every week. Treat yourself to a morning of good, relaxing fun downtown at the Farmer’s Market from now until October 28th.
This event happens every Saturday afternoon from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Frankfort Square (14th Street & 26-27 Aves.).
